The BJP has sacked its Ladakh vice-president Nazir Ahmed for his alleged involvement in his son Manzoor Ahmed's elopement with a Buddhist girl.

The meeting, chaired by state president Phunchok Stanzin and attended by members of the executive committee, was convened on Wednesday.

"We gave Nazir Ahmed enough time to explain his role," Phunchok Stanzin said.

"All the religious communities in Ladakh do not accept the incident because it threatens the communal harmony and unity of the people of this region," Stanzin said.

"Consequently, a decision has been taken to immediately relieve Nazir Ahmed of his duties as the State Vice President and immediately revoke his principal membership of the BIP," Stanzin said.
