To preserve and promote tribal cultures, J&K is all set to establish its own Tribal Research Institute (TRI) by next year, which will be focusing on promoting tribal practices and their art, culture and languages.

“The TRI is coming up in Khimber, Srinagar, which will be a centre of excellence and focus on studying and promoting tribal practices and their art, culture and languages in J&K,” said Secretary, Cooperative and Tribal Affairs, Abdul Majid Bhat during a public grievances camp at Banquet Hall in Srinagar.

He underlined the need for preserving cultural practices and languages to preserve the rich heritage of indigenous people and the traditional wisdom that dated back several generations. Bhat said the government was taking collective, conscious and concerted efforts to preserve the tribal cultures of J&K.
