Locals of a tribal area in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag were delighted after the district received electricity connection for the first time after almost 75 years of Independence. Electricity in Tethan in the Dooru block of Anantnag was provided under a centrally-sponsored PM Development Package scheme. The area, housing not more than 200 people, earlier relied on traditional wood for their energy needs. People used candlelight and lamps for survival amid their daily needs. The moment was marked by dance and celebrations by the locals of the area, located some 45 km from Anantnag town. Transformers and poles were installed in the village that illuminated 60 houses of the village.
