Thick mist upsets flight tasks in Srinagar

Cold wave escalated in Kashmir as the base temperature plunged underneath edge of freezing over even as thick mist disturbed flight activities at the Srinagar worldwide air terminal early Tuesday.

Shopian in south Kashmir was the coldest kept place in the valley as the base settled at short 3.9 degrees Celsius, while Srinagar city recorded a low of less 1.2 degrees Celsius on Monday night, an authority of the Meteorological Division said.

It was the coldest night at most places in the valley, including Srinagar city, the authority said.

Qazigund, the passage town to Kashmir, recorded a low of less 0.8 degrees Celsius while Gulmarg ski resort recorded least temperature of short 0.6 degrees Celsius, he said.

Pahalgam, the headquarters for yearly Amarnath yatra, recorded a low of short 2.9 degrees Celsius while Pulwama recorded less 2.7 degrees Celsius, the authority said.

The significant decrease in least temperature has brought about calls for conclusion of schools up to essential classes.

In a proclamation, the Non-public schools Relationship of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday requested that the organization report winter get-aways for lower classes.

A thick haze cover immersed most pieces of Kashmir, influencing traffic in the early hours.

"The haze has postponed morning trips on Monday and Tuesday. The perceivability stays poor in the early hours," an authority of the Air terminal Power of India said.
