Moonbin, a South Korean singer and a member of the K-pop boy band Astro, passed away on Thursday at the age of 25. Astro members, as well as other artists and the Fantagio staff, were "deeply shocked" and "saddened" by the news, the record company said in a statement. Before debuting in 2016 as a member of Astro, Mooonbin worked as a child actor. Next month, he was scheduled to perform as a member of the group Moonbin and Sanha at a concert in Busan, South Korea. According to local media, the singer was discovered dead at his home in Seoul's Gangnam neighborhood, and suicide was suspected. Police refused to comment. In South Korea, one of the main causes of death for teenagers is suicide. Among the wealthy OECD countries, the nation has the highest suicide rate. The phrase "all idols" became a trend on Twitter in South Korea after the news of Moonbin's passing. One tweet said, "I hope all idols can chase their dreams without feeling heartbroken.". On Thursday morning, searches for "Moonbin" surpassed all other topics on Weibo, China's Twitter-like social media platform, as many users compared Moonbin's passing to the recent deaths of other young South Korean popstars. Leading South Korean boy band SHINee's Kim Jong-hyun passed away at the age of 27 in an apparent suicide in 2017.
