India's Ravichandran Ashwin recovered the best position in the Test bowler's rankings following his nine-wicket pull in the fifth and last Test against Britain last week.
It was a critical 100th Test match in Dharamsala for India's twist lead, who completed as the main wicket-taker of the series with 26 excusals.
Ashwin, who asserted his 500th Test wicket in the third game in Rajkot, supplanted colleague Jasprit Bumrah at the highest point of the Test rankings.
Bumrah slipped to third place behind Australia's Josh Hazlewood, who climbed two rungs in the wake of asserting six wickets in the second Test against New Zealand.
It was the 6th time in his profession that Ashwin rose to the best position in positioning and it was a significant series against Britain for the 37-year-old.
The off-spinner briefly pulled out from the Rajkot Test to be with his sickly mother in Chennai before he rejoined with the crew on Day 4 of the challenge.
Ashwin, on his YouTube channel, said thanks to India commander Rohit Sharma for letting him to accompany his mom in Chennai when the Test was on.
"Rohit is an extraordinary individual, an exceptional pioneer, with a brilliant heart," the spinner said. "I saw it direct. I'd give my life for him on the field, that is the sort of commander he is."
