July 14, 2025: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday said differences between India and China should not become disputes, nor should competition become conflict.
Jaishankar met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing.
"Our bilateral relationship requires that we take a far-sighted approach to our ties," the EAM stated. “India-China relationship is gradually moving in the positive direction since our leaders' meeting in Kazan last year. We have made good progress in the past nine months for the normalisation of our bilateral relations.
"It is a result of the ability to maintain peace and tranquility and the resolution of friction along the border." Jaishankar said, “Stable and constructive Sino-India ties are not only to our benefit, but that of the world as well. Mutual respect, mutual interest and mutual sensitivity should be basis for handling India-China relations.
“Measures towards normalising people-to-people exchanges can certainly foster mutually beneficial cooperation,” Jaishankar said, adding, “It is essential that restrictive trade measures and roadblocks are avoided.”
