After imposing nine percent token tax on the purchase of a new vehicle, the Transport Department of Jammu and Kashmir is all set to increase the fee for the registration renewal of old vehicles.

The Transport Department of J&K has withheld the registration renewal of the old vehicle from August 1, 2019, as they are waiting for the fee to be revised.

The J&K administration had increased the token tax on new vehicles to nine percent of the billing price of the vehicle from August 1, after which the automobile sale had dropped drastically in the newly formed UT.

But with the same order, the department had stopped renewing of registration of old vehicles. Thousands of vehicles are pending with all Regional Transport Offices of Jammu and Kashmir, which are plying on roads without proper validity.
