NAMAKKAL: A non-governmental organization, Patthu Rubai Iyakkam, on Wednesday petitioned the district administration seeking action against authorities who had allegedly misappropriated several crores in implementing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MGNREGA) scheme in the district.

“As per information obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, we learned that the social audits carried out in villages across the state have revealed discrepancies in the records maintained for the scheme. Hence, the authorities have misappropriated several crores,” the petitioner and general secretary of Patthu Rubai Iyakkam Nalvinai Viswaraj said. The scheme was meant to ensure employment for underprivileged people for 100 days.
