Bringing Laurels back home, Jammu based Mukti Society, a Non-Governmental Organization have been awarded ‘Kala Nidhi’ title award by Satyadev Narayan Arya, the governor of Haryana in presence of Bandaru Dattatreya, the governor of Himachal Pardesh for outstanding contribution of the NGO for highlighting Local Parali Craft of Jammu at 34th Surajkund International Craft Mela organized by the government of Haryana in Faridabad.
Nidhi Sharma, founder, and Chairperson of the Mukti Organization received the trophy and Cash award from the governor on the Concluding day of the program.
Giving further details about the event, Nidhi informed that her Organization that is working on rural women empowerment had displayed Local Prali Craft of Kishtwar area in the Suraj Kund Mela and all the artifacts were made by all women artisans in the event that is diminishing due to several reasons. She said the tourism department of Haryana is eager to help the local handicrafts of Jammu_Kashmir and Ladakh region and the only need is little support from the J & K government.
The 34th Suraj Kund International Craft Mela was inaugurated by Ram Nath Kovind, the president of India in the 1st week of February in presence of several national and international dignitaries and diplomats. Three hundred artisans and artists from at least 30 countries & all the states of India participated in the Mela that witnessed more than 13 Lac local and foreigner visitors. The event was jointly organized by the Tourism department of Haryana in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. Uzbekistan was the partner country in organizing the International event.
