Chairman of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Sourav Ganguly has made a big statement about the chairman of the selection committee of the Indian cricket team. Ganguly has pointed out who will be the next chief selector to select Team India. The names of the members of the Cricket Advisory Committee were stamped on Friday. This committee is the one to decide the name of the next chief selector.
On Friday itself, the BCCI has selected the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). Former Indian fast bowler RP Singh, 1983 World Cup team member Madan Lal and women cricketer Sulakshana Nayak were announced as members of the CAC. The CAC will finalize the names of the new selectors in place of the current selectors MSK Prasad and Gagan Khoda. The term of the Cricket Advisory Committee will be one year.
Sourav Ganguly, while talking to Hindustan Times about who will be the chief selector, said that the one who has played as many Test matches as possible will sit on the post. Ganguly said the chief selector would be the man who played as many Test matches as possible.
Veterans have applied
Two positions of selector are vacant for which former Indian all-rounder Ajit Agarkar, former cricketer Laxmi Sivaramakrishnan, former bowler Venkatesh Prasad, Rajesh Chauhan, Chetan Sharma, Nikhil Chopra, Amay Kurshia and former wicketkeeper Nayan Mongia have applied. Sivaramakrishnan has played 9 Test matches for India. At the same time Venkatesh Prasad has played 33 while Ajit Agarkar has played a total of 26 Test matches.
Agarkar leads the race
It is clear from Ganguly's statement that Prasad and Agarkar would be given preference for the post. The names of both these former veterans are being shortlisted. Agarkar has also taken charge as a selector in the Mumbai Cricket Association, so his claim seems to be very strong.
