If you ever wanted to be inside one of the fancy castles of Japan, then you are in luck as the Ozu Castle and the Hirado Castle in the country have invited guests to stay for a month (30 days) on a yearly basis! And this will begin this spring, i.e., from the month of April.

Two of Japan’s famous old castles have been restored recently. Ozu Castle, which is a 14th-century architecture, is absolutely gorgeous. Accommodation in this castle, which is in Ehime Prefecture, will be provided in the castle’s four-story tenshu (core tower), and is around five hours away from Osaka. This grand castle sits on a hill above the Hijikawa River and looks absolutely mesmerizing. It was in 2004 that the building was restored using 350-year-old Kiso Japanese cedar and timber.

Soon after, Hirado Castle in Nagasaki Prefecture was reported and is now ready to offer a similar arrangement. The official dates have not been revealed yet. This hilltop castle is another beauty altogether and was once home to the Matsura clan. The original structure was demolished during the Meiji period (1868–1912), and after the restoration of the palace, it became a five-story property. Close to the castle are two shrines and some interesting walking trails overlooking Hirado Strait.

The 30-day overnight program will be offered each year. The program includes a traditional gun-salute welcome, some folk dance performances along with Japanese delicacies.

As of now, the Ozu Castle is open for online reservations. It is expected to open to travelers by April 24, 2020. Also, do keep the price in mind, which is a whopping 1 million yen ($9168 or INR 655259) per couple.

Being on the Japanese Castle Foundation’s list of Top 100 Castles in the country, these two castles deserve the price. Also, Ozu and Hirado are the very first feudal fortresses in Japan to offer accommodation options.
