Singer Adnan Sami conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri award for his services in the field of Art. The award will be conferred by the President of India in a ceremonial function in March or April this year.
Reaction after the news of getting Padam Shri he said "It's really precious. I feel when you are honored with a prestigious award like Padma Shri, it increases responsibility. Now, I feel a tremendous sense of responsibility to try and do even better,"
When many felt there are several other more deserving musicians in India who were overlooked. Sami is naturally not bothered about such criticism. he said "It is okay if they didn't like it. I have forgiven them. They are bechare (poor people) and I hope they will learn from it. If a handful of people doesn't like it then it doesn't matter because 1.3 billion people liked the decision, so who are they? They should be kept aside,"
He became an Indian citizen in 2016 and had expressed his “infinite gratitude†at being chosen for the government award, also asked what his father had to do with his award. His father’s past as a Pakistani Air Force pilot has drawn criticism but Mr. Sami finds this argument “irrelevant“. said my father was a decorated fighter pilot and he was a professional soldier. He did his duty for his country. I respect him for that. It was his life. He got awarded for that.
“People who are criticizing are some minor politicians. They are doing it because of some political agenda that they have and it has nothing to do with me. I am not a politician, I am a musician,â€
