During this, Badar Din (62), who was performing prayers at the mosque in village Shahpur, died on the spot. Four people, including Mohammed Shabbir (30), Mohammad Taj Mohammad Sadik (26), were injured. They were rushed to the hospital immediately. As soon as the fire broke out, people started fleeing to a safe place amid panic in the village.

The fire was so strong that many people could not reach the mosque to perform Namaz. Those who had reached the Namaz Ata were caught in the shelling. People allege that the Pakistani army deliberately targeted the village and opened fire. From 11 am Pakistan started shelling, targeting residential areas and forward posts along the Line of Control.

Pakistan had suffered heavy losses a week earlier, on 8 and 9 February, firing from Pakistan was also carried out in Poonch. On February 8, four soldiers were killed in the Chidikot area in retaliation after shelling in the Digwar sector. Six outposts were demolished. On Sunday, the second day, five posts were destroyed in the Balakot area in PoK in retaliation. Many soldiers were also injured.
