Harnam Singh Jamwal, a Rehbar-e-Talem (ReT) teacher, posted at Government Middle School (GMS), Padder (Narla) in the remote Khawas zone of Rajouri district, will be among 63 teachers from across the country who will be felicitated with the Best Teacher/Innovator National Award by the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal on March 2. He is the only teacher from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to be conferred with the award by the Central ministry in New Delhi.

Speaking to sources Harnam Singh Jamwal said, “the Aurobindo Society, which is working in collaboration with the HRD Ministry had invited an idea from teachers from all states/union territories on zero investment innovations for education initiatives (ZIIEI) and the selected ideas will be published in Navachar Pustika to motivate teachers across the country to improve the quality of education”.

“I had sent 38 innovative ideas of teaching and luckily one of the ideas has been selected by the HRD Ministry and will be published in books and implemented in all the schools of the country which is indeed a proud moment for me, my family and the J&K Education Department as well.”

“My selected idea was to practically teach students regarding agricultural activities by managing field visits for them, teach them ploughing, preparation of soil, sowing, weeding, cutting and collecting, etc. Agriculture is the basic need for everyone and practical field visits of students will definitely provide vast knowledge regarding agriculture to students. Further, the students will also enjoy a lot and learn more outside the classroom”, he added.

“I have been informed that around 6,00,000 innovative ideas on zero investment were sent by 2,00,000 lakh teachers from different states/union territories and of them, only 63 best ideas from teachers were eventually selected by the HRD Ministry”, the ReT teacher maintained.
