The panchayat by-election was adjourned for five days after the notification was issued by the government for security reasons. It has been decided to postpone the election on the advice of the state Home Department. On February 13, a notification for by-elections in eight phases was issued. Notification for the first two phases has also been issued.

In an all-party meeting convened by CEO Shailendra Kumar on Tuesday, the opposition parties raised the issue of fixing the security situation. Late in the evening, an order was issued by the CEO to postpone the election. The order said that the state home department had sent a letter on 18 February advising that it should consider postponing the election on the basis of inputs received from various security agencies.

After deliberating the letter, it has been decided to postpone the election. The order said that the elections were announced after the recommendations made in connection with the preparations of the Apex Committee constituted by the government and the security clearance received by the General Administration Department.

Along with this, a list of vacant panchayat circles was also released by the Panchayati Raj Department on 10 February. On these basis, on February 13, elections were announced by the Chief Electoral Officer Office in eight phases.

New dates announced in two-three weeks
The order of the Chief Electoral Officer states that new dates will be announced within two to three weeks. Notifications issued for the first and second phases have also been withdrawn.

Sources for spreading violence in the by-election say that during the panchayat by-election, inputs have been received by the security agencies to spread violence on a large scale from the terrorists. There are inputs that terrorists have been directed by Pakistan to target candidates and security forces. In such a situation, the challenge will be to make the security of the candidates in the valley complete.

In the all-party meeting convened by the Chief Electoral Officer on Tuesday for the Panchayat by-election, the opposition parties had vigorously raised the issues of security of the candidates, the current situation, restrictions on the leaders, etc. He felt that conditions were not favorable for the election. The atmosphere must first be adapted.
