The list of 37 central laws implemented in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been released. The decision was taken in the cabinet meeting held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Even after becoming a Union Territory, 37 central laws that were not in force in Jammu and Kashmir, have now come into force. This will ensure that the laws passed under the Constitution are applicable throughout the country. This was done so that there would be no ambiguity in the observance of the Constitution in the newly formed Union Territory.

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday informed that these are the central laws that require changes and amendments. These central laws have been adopted under section 96 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act 2019. Under this section, the central government is empowered to make adjustments and changes in the laws. The central government can do so by dissolving or amending the law.

Following are the new laws included in the list of these laws issued after the approval of the Union Cabinet.

The official statement said that all the central laws applicable in the whole of India except the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir will now come into force in the reconstituted Jammu and Kashmir from October 31, 2019.

Keep in mind that Article 370 and 35A were removed from Jammu and Kashmir on August 5 last year by passing the same Act in Parliament. Also, this state was divided into two union territories. It was accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and Ladakh was made a union territory without an assembly. Four days later, on August 9, 2019, President Ram Nath Kovind gave its approval to materialize the partition of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
