Aug 5, 2025: The "Chhari Mubarak," the sacred mace of Lord Shiva, was removed from its home at Dashnami Akhara Temple on Monday to begin its journey to the cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas, kicking off the final leg of the Amarnath yatra. Under tight security, Chhari Mubarak custodian Mahant Giri and a number of sadhus took the holy mace early in the morning from the Dashnami Akhara Temple at Budshah Chowk. He stated, "The holy mace will reach Pahalgam tonight and stay there for two nights. On August 6, it will make a night stop at Chandwari, Sheshnag, and Panjtarni before reaching the holy cave on August 9, which will mark the end of the yatra according to the scriptures." The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board called a premature end to the month-long yatra on Saturday, stating that the tracks leading to the holy cave needed to be fixed after being damaged by recent heavy rains. More than 4.13 lakh pilgrims performed the annual yatra this year.
Giri pleaded with the authorities to take measures to ensure that the pilgrims could complete the yatra up until Shravan Purnima, which occurs annually on Raksha Bandhan.
