WATSUPPTODAY

By: Dr Sandeep Dogra

Lockdown was primarily initiated for two reasons. First, to proactively break the chain of transmission of a novel infectious virus on which little was known and which was spreading fast. After 61 days, our positivity and death rates (relative to countries comparable to ours) speak a lot!

Second was to 'buy precious time' to prepare from its anticipated impact on our citizens and healthcare infrastructure. From an abysmal beginning on 25 March, we have impressively ramped up our collective capacity to fight COVID19.

Labs: 1 to 351 (testing around 1,00,000 samples/day)
PPE: 47,000/year to 2,00,000/day
COVID 19 Hospitals: 0 to 1,025
ICU beds: 11,752 to 35,095
Isolation beds: 1,05,890 to 8,19,965
Ventilators: 6,324 to 15,692 (+49,000 on way)
All these numbers are still increasing...

Considering the socio-economic diversity and the operating dynamics of our country, the figures again speak a lot!

But 'Dilli abhi door hai'...
