Jammu and Kashmir administration is mulling upon resuming the operation of public transport, at least on a few selected routes for a while, in Jammu.
As the city of temples – Jammu enters ‘Unlock-1’ along with the entire nation on Monday, the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the public transport are likely to get announced either Monday or by Tuesday, it has been learnt.
The State Executive Committee (SEC) headed by Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam is reported to have asked all the District Magistrates who are also the chairpersons of their respective districts’ disaster management authorities to conduct an exercise on making public transport operational. All the District Magistrates today completed the exercise and submitted their reports to the SEC.
“The proposals now will be put before the SEC for final decision which is expected either on Sunday or Monday as lockdown 4.0 in J&K has already been extended till June 8 and `Unlock 1.0′ is likely to come into force from June 9,” sources said, adding: “Definitely transport will be made operational on certain routes in certain districts”. The fare tariff may also go up. In the initial phase limited number of transport might be made operational in limited areas and depending on the success, numbers of public transport could be increased.
