Mayor, Jammu, Chander Mohan Gupta accompanied by Deputy Mayor, Jammu Purnima Sharma and Commissioner of the Jammu Municipal Corporation Avny Lavasa along with chairman of the Social Justice Committee of the JMC Jeet Lal Angral jointly highlighted the work done by Jammu Municipal Corporation to combat the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. The works highlighted included fogging/spraying, installation of disinfectant tunnels at various public places and appealing the general public to maintain social distancing norms as the number of positive cases are increasing day by day.
These works were highlighted by these officials while interacting with media here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, the city mayor stressed that as the government has increased the testing rate per day there is no need for panic but to take precautionary measures.
He also appealed the street vendors to apply for working capital loan up to Rs 10,000 under PM Street Vendors Atma Nirbhar Nidhi scheme recently announced by central government a special micro-credit facility for street vendors making street vendors self-reliant under Atma Nirbhar Bharat to be launched by Honble Lieutenant Governor, J&K shortly.
While highlighting the benefit of the micro-credit facility for street vendors announced by the Government of India Gupta said that street vendors represent a very important constituent of the urban informal economy and play a significant role in ensuring availability of the goods and services at affordable rates at the door-step of the city dwellers. They are known by different names like vendors, hawkers, thelewala, rehriwala etc.
The COVID-19 pandemic and consequent lockdowns have adversely impacted the livelihoods of street vendors. They usually work with small capital base and might have consumed the same during the lockdown. Therefore, there is an urgent need to provide credit for working capital to street vendors to resume their business. JMC has started a mega drive To identify all those street vendors who could not get themselves registered till date and it is a golden opportunity to get them covered under ongoing survey through concerned area Sanitation Officer/Sanitary Inspector/Sanitary Supervisor/officials designated for the same. The registered street vendors can avail the facility of capital loan under PM SVA Nidhi by going to the nearest bank where they can apply manually or can opt for online application on PM SVA Nidhi website.
