To commemorate the victory of Indian Army in Kargil in the 1999 War with Pakistan, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on Sunday pay rich tributes to Kargil Martyrs on Vijay Divas at New Rehari Office under the chairmanship of UDA Convener Manish Sahani. Floral tributes were paid to the martyrs and candles were lit in their honour. A two minutes silence was also observed.
Speaking on the occasion, the members remembered all the martyrs and said that the Indian Army is the best Army in the world.
Rajiv Mahajan Chief Spokesperson of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) saluted the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the beloved nation. "The Kargil Diwas reminds us of the valour and sacrifices of the Indian armed forces," he added.
The Indian army fought very bravely along with the Indian Air Forces who played the major role during the war and the Indian Battalion regained its position. Indian Army has always safeguarded the nation from alien forces and made us proud every time with their work and sacrifices for the Motherland.
"I salute this army with all my heart who are there for us in every difficult situation," he said adding that Indian Army always remains ready to deal with any eventuality in the country, be there any situation or condition, fighting terrorism, natural calamities, terror attacks or a curfew.
Kargil war is one such incident which cannot be forgotten.
"Indian army is like a mother who does work selflessly and never asks for in return. This heroic sacrifice of our army won't be forgotten, and it will always inspire us," Mahajan added.
Prominent among those who paid tributes included Lt Gen. (Retd.) Pradeep Singh Mehta Principal Advisor, IG (Retd.) Sudhir Dogra General Secretary, Co- Conveners Col. (Retd.) S.S Pathania, Com. (Retd.) Bhushan Devan, Col. (Retd.) PS Jamwal, (Retd. DC) Vijay Sharma, (Retd. DC) M. L. Sharma, Er. V.K. Gupta (Retd SC), R.K Khajuria (Retd. ETO), Krishan Manhas, Satish Ponshi, Kulbir Singh Slathia, Bharat Bhushan Gupta, Gajan Singh Khajuria, Rajinder Gupta, Rajeev Luthra, Prem Sharma, Vivek Wazir, Rakesh Badyal, Pawan Gupta, Sanjay Jandyal, Varnider Singh Billawria, Yash Khajuria, Jaswinder Singh (Kuku), Sanjeev Sharma, Dr. Karan Gupta, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Rajinder Gupta (Bittu) and Ravi Tickoo.
In another programme the Freedom Fighters� Memorial Association (FFMA) on Sunday pay rich tributes to Kargil Martyrs on Vijay Divas at Dogra Shaurya Sthal, Ampbhalla under the chairmanship of its Chairman Ved Gandotra and Vice Chairman, Rajiv Mahajan.

Speaking on the occasion, R.C Puri (Retd KAS), President of Freedom Fighters� Memorial Association (FFMA) said that Kargil war is regarded as a testimony of the Indian Army�s grit and determination, in which the soldiers exhibited dauntless courage, resilience, valour and fought against all odds in bone chilling temperatures of the high altitude mountains in Kargil.
The army evicted the entrenched infiltrators from the icy heights and ensured a convincing victory for the country. The turning point of the Kargil War was the recapture of the Tololing peak. The Tololing peak overlooked the Srinagar-Kargil-Leh highway and so, gave the Pakistani intruders an opportunity to cut the strategic highway off. The Tololing peak was recaptured by Indian soldiers on June 13, 1999.
While paying tributes to the Kargil heroes, Th. Karnail Chand, General Secretary of Freedom Fighters� Memorial Association (FFMA) said that on the eventful day of Kargil Vijay Diwas, named after the success of Operation Vijay on July 26, 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts which had been illegally seized by the Pakistani intruders. He said that the indebted public of this great Nation pays tribute to all those who served the country during Operation Vijay. Courageous soldiers of India ensured that the borders remained protected and gave an apt reaction to those who tried to disturb the atmosphere of peace.
Pritam Sharma, Vice President of Freedom Fighters� Memorial Association (FFMA) threw light on the supreme valour shown by the Indian Army-men during the hour of need. He said that the Indian Army is capable of thwarting any such act by any hostile force at any hour so the enemy must shun any such idea in future.
�Salute to each and every martyr who fought fearlessly and sacrificed their life for our safety and the nation. Hats off to their indomitable courage and to the sacrifices of their families, we will always remain indebted,� Sharma added.
