NCB to seek extension of judicial custody of Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik

Mumbai, 22-Sep-2020

The judicial custody of Rhea Chakraborty, who is currently staying at Mumbai's Byculla jail, is ending today. According to sources, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) might seek extension of judicial custody of the actress and her brother, Showik Chakraborty, at the sessions court today. The NCB had arrested Rhea on September 8 and asked for a 14-day judicial custody of her till September 22. She was arrested for allegedly procuring drugs for Sushant Singh Rajput. Rhea Chakraborty was arrested on the basis of statements of all the other people arrested in the case. Rhea's brother, Showik Chakraborty, in his statement to the NCB confessed that he arranged marijuana for the late actor. He also said that Rhea paid for the drugs. Sushant Singh Rajput's house manager, Samuel Miranda, and his staff, Dipesh Sawant, are also in jail. They revealed Rhea Chakraborty's involvement in the drug link. The NCB has arrested 18 people so far in the case. Many of them include peddlers who would supply drugs to Bollywood celebrities. Sources say that the NCB has asked for judicial custody of Showik and Dipesh till September 29 in an application. On Monday, the NCB questioned Jaya Saha, with whom Rhea Chakraborty chatted about CBD oil on WhatsApp, for four hours. In the chats, released by the Enforcement Directorate, the two women can be seen discussing drugs. Jaya advised Rhea to used a few drops of a substance in Sushant Singh Rajput's tea or coffee. The message reads, "Use 4 drops in tea, let him sip it . Give it 30-40 mins to kick in." It was later found out that the duo was discussing CBD Oil. The NCB has called Jaya again on Tuesday along with Rhea's manager Shruti Modi. A major development was observed on Monday when the NCB sources revealed that Deepika Padukone's name had cropped up in a WhatsApp chat during their investigation. The officials have acquired WhatsApp chats of the actress with her manager Karishma, who works in Kwan talent management agency. In the chats, the Chaapaak actress is seen discussing about drugs with the manager. Karishma works with Jaya Saha in the talent management firm. The NCB has summoned Karishma for questioning today. Earlier, sources revealed that the central investigating agency might summon Sara Ali Khan, Shraddha Kapoor, Rakul Preet Singh and Simone Khambata, among others for questioning. Their names cropped up in the investigation after boatman Jagdish Das told the NCB that these actresses would often party with Sushant Singh Rajput and Rhea Chakraborty at a farmhouse in Lonavala. The boatman also alleged that ganja and liquor were common in their island parties. An escapist retreat dotted with lakes, cliffs, dams, islands, and caves, Lonavala is now on the NCB radar in connection with the drug angle in Rajput's death case.
