Daily growth of Covid cases dips to 0.5%, Chandigarh logs 40 new infections

The daily growth of Covid-19 cases are continuing in the declining mode, reaching 0.5% as of October 18 the lowest since the start of the pandemic. On August 26, the city's daily growth was highest in the country with 5.1%.

The growth rate is at which the total reported cases grow daily. A seven day average of the daily growth is considered for analysis to minimise the effect of fluctuations in reported numbers.

According to the data released on August 26, the new coronavirus was spreading at the fastest pace in Chandigarh as compared to all states and UTs having more than 1,000 active cases and the city was at number one position. The city recorded 40 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, increasing the tally to 13,686, with 861 active cases. Sector 21 reported six cases, Manimajra five and one to three cases were scattered across other sectors of the city. As many as 63 patients were discharged, taking the recovery count to 12,617. The death toll is 208.

As the active cases started declining, UT administrator VP Singh Badnore had recently stated that all medical institutions must try to restore normalcy in OPDs, since the burden of coronavirus cases has come down. He had also directed that regular fogging, sanitisation and cleanliness drive should be undertaken to ensure that there is no outbreak of diseases like malaria, dengue or other vector-borne diseases.
