Parts of Mcleodganj, known to be entry points to tourist areas, declared as COVID containment zones
12-December-2020

The tourism hub of Mcleodganj, the central point that comprises the main crossing to Dolma crossing, in Kangra district has been announced as a COVID containment zone by SDM Dharamsala.

According to the reports, this area falls under ward no. 3 of the municipal corporation in Dharamsala. The orders given by the SDM Dharamsala, Harish Gajju, state that 11 people in the area, starting from Mcleodganjs main chowk to the Dolma clinic crossing, were found to be Corona positive.

Reportedly, in order to avoid further spread of the virus in the area, the SDM has imposed section 144 of the CrPC. The entry and exit points of the area would be manned by the district authorities now. Permit to enter the zone would be given only after performing thermal screening of the visitors. No outsider would be allowed to enter the zone without a sensible reason.

News has it that orders have been given to disinfect the entire area. The residents have been told to stay in their homes, and no one is permitted to venture out on the streets except in case of medical issues.

Tourists who had planned to visit Dharamkot and Bhagsunag wont be able to pursue their plan further, as this containment area was the entrance to the two tourist places.

After March, this is the second instance when the Mcleodganj area has come under the containment zone.
