It has also warned that Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan will witnesses cold wave conditions during January 8 and 9. "Due to abundant moisture available in lower tropospheric levels and other favourable meteorological features, dense to very dense fog at isolated pockets very likely over Punjab and Haryana and dense fog over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, north Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, north Rajasthan and north Madhya Pradesh in the morning hours of January 8," the IMDS said today in a statement.

On Thursday, the IMD had said that Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to receive heavy rainfall during the next 24 hours.
"Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall also very likely over Kerala and Mahe and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during next 24 hours," the IMD stated in a tweet. "Under the influence of cyclonic circulation over southeast Arabian Sea and another cyclonic circulation over south Tamil Nadu coast and neighbourhood in lower tropospheric levels, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls and moderate thunderstorm and lightning is very likely over southern peninsular India during next 2-3 days," the tweet added. The cyclonic circulation and surface winds will cause widespread rains, cold winds and foggy conditions in the wee hours over the next three days in many Karnataka districts, IMD official said. "Many districts across the southern state will receive moderate to heavy rains over the next three days due to cyclonic circulation and a low-level trough over the Arabian Sea on the west and Bay of Bengal on the east," Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) director C.S. Patil said in a statement here.
