Seychelles reopens for tourism, but only for vaccinated visitors
21-January-2021

Seychelles is now open for visitors. The island nation is all set to welcome visitors from any part of the world, but only those who are vaccinated.

Visitors must recognise themselves as vaccinated, i.e., those who have taken both the doses of COVD-19 vaccine, and also have a negative report from a RT-PCR test that has been done not more than 72 hours prior to the journey.

As per government orders, Seychelles will be reopening for tourism in a two-step approach. In the first phase, it will allow those who have taken both the doses of vaccine, and also have a COVID negative from a test done 72 hours prior to the journey.

Reportedly, the second phase will start from mid-March; it is expected that the Seychelles government would have vaccinated a significant section of its population by then. It is expected that during this phase, unvaccinated visitors would likely be allowed to enter the country with just a COVID-negative report from a test done 72 hours prior to the journey.

As per the statement by the countrys Tourism Promotion Board, if they go by the ongoing numbers, it is likely that 25 per cent of its population would be vaccinated by mid-March, when the second phase will be rolled out.

The statement also noted that Seychelles is currently open to Indian visitors, who have not been vaccinated yet, but via private jet transfers only.

However, those arriving in the country will have to follow existing health protocols, such as maintaining adequate social distance, wearing face masks, which will remain in place all the time as per the travel advisory issued by the government. Also, all tourism operators are expected to follow the existing COVID-19 standard operating procedures and protocol.
