The counting of ballots for the 116 Punjab urban local bodies began amid tight security on Wednesday. Results for the recently-conducted civic body polls in Punjab will be be announced today amid a rift between estranged National Democratic Alliance partners � the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party. The polls witnessed more than 70 per cent voting to elect over 100 civic body representatives in Punjab.

Punjab civic election results:

Bhawnigarh: Out of the total 15 Wards, Congress races ahead in 13, Akali in 1.

Sultanpur Nagar Panchayat: There are 13 Wards; Congress ahead in 10 and SAD in 3.

Rajpura: As per initial trends, Congress ahead in 27, Akali Dal in 1, AAP in 1 and BJP in 2.

Ramdas Nagar Panchayat: Congress captures Ramdas Nagar Panchayat by bagging 8 seats; Shiromani Akali Dal managed to win three.

Batala: Six Congress candidates have registered victory, One each Ward has been won by BJP and an Independent.

Majitha Nagar Panchayat: Out of the total 13 Wards, SAD ahead in 10, Congress in 2 and an Independent candidate leading in 1.

Jallabad: The area represents 17 Wards. Alakis ahead in 4, Congress 2 and AAP 1.

Bathinda: Congress is going strong and has maintained lead in 9.

Moga: Out of the total 51 Wards, Akalis are ahead in 15, Congress in 13, Aam Aadmi Party ahead in 4 and Others in 9

Hoshiarpur: BJP wins two Wards despite farmers' resentment against it.

Hoshiarpur: The Congress is going very strong and is surging ahead in nine Wards so far.

Batala: One each Ward has won by Congress and an Independent candidate.

Gurdaspur: All five Congress candidates have won from Ward number 1 to 5.

Ludhiana: Congress and SAD have won four Wards each in the district.

Police have said that three-tier security arrangement has been made to ensure fair and free counting of votes. Only Election Commission staff who has been assigned for counting is being allowed inside the counting centres. Extra polce deployment has been ensured in the sensitive areas.
