June 5, 2025: The Union Health Ministry has asked that states guarantee the supply of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators, and other medications in light of the recent surge in Covid-19 cases.
According to official sources, on June 2, a simulated exercise evaluating oxygen delivery systems was carried out. Mock drills for facility-level readiness are scheduled for June 5.
To assess the current Covid-19 situation and preparedness measures, a series of technical review meetings were held on June 2 and 3 under the direction of Dr. Sunita Sharma, Director-General, Health Services (DGHS). The meetings included representatives from the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), the Disaster Management Cell, the Emergency Management Response Cell, the Central Government hospitals in Delhi, and representatives from all states and Union Territories.
Covid instances are minor and resolve on their own. There have been 44 recorded deaths since January 1st of this year, mostly among people with pre-existing conditions. India reported 4,302 current Covid cases as of June 4.
The IDSP's state and district surveillance divisions keep a careful eye on severe acute respiratory illnesses (SARI) and influenza-like illness (ILI). According to guidelines, testing is advised for 5% of ILI cases and all hospitalized SARI cases. The ICMR VRDL network is used to send positive SARI samples for whole genome sequencing, according to officials.
