
June 17, 2025: At the Hanle Dark Sky reserve in Ladakh, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman laid the groundwork for a miniature planetarium on Monday.
The Minister is in the cold desert for four days. During that time, she talked to Ladakh Lt Governor Brig BD Mishra (retd) and met with locals and BJP employees. Sitharaman also went to Rongdo Valley on Monday and talked to members of the local nomadic tribe, including their women. She asked about the issues pertaining the community and assured she would take up their concerns with the government at highest level.
Under the SBI Foundation's CSR initiative, she visited Rongdo Valley and presented a Rs 50 lakh check for the construction of tents for tribals.

She then went to Nyoma village and talked to the people who lived there.
Sitharaman also went to the Leh palace and looked at the Namgyal dynasty's architectural legacy and historic corridors. She was accompanied by officials from the ASI and the Chief Secretary of Ladakh, Pawan Kotwal. Reflecting the region's cultural diversity, this 17th-century palace features a one-of-a-kind combination of Tibetan, Indian, and Buddhist architectural styles.
