
July 22, 2025: According to officials, tight security measures were in place when a new group of over 3,700 pilgrims left Jammu on Monday for the two base camps of the cave shrine of Amarnath in the south Kashmir Himalayas.
The group of 3,791 pilgrims, which included 3,067 men, 522 women, nine children, 192 sadhus and sadhvis, and a transgender person, left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in 148 vehicles between 3.33 and 4.06 a.m., according to reports.
They stated that the first pilgrim convoy, consisting of 1,208 pilgrims traveling in 52 vehicles, left for the shorter but steeper 14-kilometer Baltal route in the Ganderbal district.
The second pilgrim convoy, consisting of 2,583 pilgrims traveling in 96 vehicles, is completing the yatra via the 48-kilometer traditional Pahalgam route. The number of pilgrims participating in the yatra has been decreasing over the past few days, according to data.
There were 7,908 pilgrims who left for Amarnath on July 18, 6,365 on July 19, 4,388 on July 20, and today's batch of 3,791 pilgrims was the smallest to date. In addition, the number of people using the counters for on-the-spot registration has decreased over the past few days.
