Aug 5, 2025: According to a report published by market research company Counterpoint Research, Bengaluru has emerged as India's leading hub for AI research, development, and data centers, having achieved the 26th position in the Global Artificial Intelligence (AI) City Index.

The "2025 AI City Index" reveals that Bengaluru, Riyadh, Hangzhou, and Sao Paulo are among the world's fastest-growing AI hubs, and that several Indian cities are rapidly ascending global rankings. The rankings in India are led by Bengaluru, followed by Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkata.

According to the report, Bengaluru's thriving startup ecosystem has helped it become a global hub for AI research and development and data centers. Meanwhile, it is anticipated that Delhi and Mumbai will rise in future rankings due to their innovative use of AI for public safety and traffic management. To fully utilize AI's potential, the report emphasizes that Indian cities could benefit from a more extensive roadmap and robust regulatory framework.

As the leading AI city worldwide, Singapore came out on top, followed by Seoul, Beijing, Dubai, and San Francisco in the top five. Singapore's success is due to strong public-private partnerships in healthcare, transportation, and telecommunications, as well as a thriving startup ecosystem. While Beijing announced formal AI education programs for all primary and secondary school students beginning in 2025, Seoul also stands out for its AI applications in healthcare and education. In addition, the report predicts that significant investments in supercomputing will likely close the gap between China and North America in the coming years.

With the expansion of its AI data center presence, the implementation of AI training programs, and the establishment of innovation hubs, Microsoft emerged as the most active vendor in the sector. According to the report, Google and Amazon also improved their AI capabilities by developing initiatives that are similar to one another and expanding their infrastructure.
