India's total number of coronavirus cases has risen to over 24,500, a number that includes more than 5,000 people who have recovered: a heartening milestone.
But fatalities have risen to 775 -- a grim toll, but smaller than numbers coming out of other large countries battling the pathogen like the United States, which leads the world in coronavirus cases and deaths.
The SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus was first discovered in China but rapidly swept across the world in a pandemic that has crippled economic activity and prompted the IMF to warn of a sharp fall in global growth.
