Geelani says 'goodbye' to Hurriyat Conference

Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Monday announced to distance himself from the All Parties Hurriyat Conference.
In an audio message released Monday, Geelani made the announcement regarding his resignation and added that he is distancing himself from the Hurriyat Conference.
He said, "In view of the present situation, I resign from All Parties Hurriyat Conference. I have informed all the constituents of the Hurriyat about the decision."
According to a news agency, Geelani also cited "rebellion against the leadership" by cadres as one of the reasons. The resignation of Geelani, one of the most prominent separatist leaders, is a major development in Jammu and Kashmir politics.
