President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday said that Kashmir has ushered in a new era of progress, peace and prosperity by improving civic infrastructure, development and health services. He made his remarks at a civic reception organized in his honor at the Raj Bhavan in Srinagar this evening. Earlier, he addressed the 20th convocation of Kashmir University in Srinagar and encouraged the students to actively participate in social services along with their studies. Murmu said that by doing this, university students could bring about social change and be role models. He was happy to note that the alumni have brought honor to the university by serving the country. He praised the National Education Policy (NEP) and said it would focus on India's knowledge system. Recalling the work of scholar Suyya about 1,200 years ago to save Srinagar from Jhelum floods, he said it can be called water engineering. He said that the country has priceless treasures in all fields of knowledge and science. It is up to academia, he said, to find ways to reuse such naturally grown information systems. Referring to the motto of the University of Kashmir, which means "movement from darkness to light", the President said that the more our youth go to the light of education and to the light of peace, the more our country will progress. Handing over the gold medal to 21 winners out of 462 students, he said, "I am happy to see that 55% of the students enrolled here are girls, while they constitute 65% of the gold medalists and awardees. Today's awardees are our. level. and taqdeer."
He expressed confidence that Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam 2023 will prove to be a revolutionary step towards women development in our country.
He urged the university to be vigilant in protecting the Himalayan ecosystem. He was happy to note that glaciology, biodiversity conservation and Himalayan ice core laboratory work were at different stages.
The president also said that the shrine of Hazratbal blessed Kashmir University. The president also appreciated India's leadership of the G20.
