Ghulam Nabi Azad, the chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), urged voters to cast ballots in the third and final round of the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. Azad, one of the first voters in this election, added that although unemployment is the largest problem in the union area, neither the national nor regional parties have given it enough consideration. During the initial hour of voting, Azad cast his ballot at Gandhi Nagar's Government Girls Higher Secondary School. "Every voter, whether male or female, senior or young, should come out to vote since this election is happening after a long interval of 10 years... it is their option who they want to vote for, whose party or candidate, ... but they should vote," the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister added. When asked about the West Pakistani refugees, Valmikis, and the Gorkha community—who became eligible to vote in the assembly elections in August 2019 following the repeal of Article 370—Azad replied that certain issues had existed since 1947 and had always been exploited by various political parties for their own agendas. Statehood, Article 35A, and rising unemployment are among the pressing challenges of the day, he said. "The main issue is tied to every faith and the destiny of the kids." During the campaign, none of the national or regional parties have given adequate attention to the problem of unemployment. On the likelihood of the DPAP or someone else emerging as the kingmaker after the elections, Azad stated that in a democracy, people are the actual fountainheads and not the parties. "Let us leave it to the voters and see who they want to pass over the power to," he remarked. "It is the people who vote you into power."
