India's Health Ministry provides an update on COVID-19 cases, fatalities, and readiness.

May 31, 2025: According to the Union Health Ministry, there are currently 2,710 active cases of COVID-19 in India, and 1,170 patients have been released.
According to state-by-state data, comorbidities were a major factor in the majority of the seven deaths reported nationwide across several states.
The Health Ministry reports that Covid-19 was an incidental finding in one death that was recorded in Delhi, involving a 60-year-old woman who had acute intestinal obstruction following laparotomy. One death was reported in Gujarat; specifics are still pending.
One person, a 70-year-old man, died from acute cardiorespiratory arrest, acute encephalopathy with late-onset focal seizures, severe anemia, thrombocytopenia, and comorbidities such as ischemic heart disease (IHD), hypertension (HTN), and diabetes mellitus (DM), according to Karnataka. According to the statement, his Covid-19 status is pending RT-PCR confirmation.
Maharashtra also reported two deaths: a 21-year-old male with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI), with one death reconciled, and a 67-year-old male with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), left lung pneumonia, Covid-19 RT-PCR positive, and comorbidities including DM, hypertension, and cerebrovascular accident (CVA).
A 39-year-old man with acute respiratory syndrome and Hepatitis B was the only fatality reported in Punjab. A 60-year-old man with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), hypertension (HTN), and chronic kidney disease (CKD) was the only person reported dead in Tamil Nadu.
Kerala has 1,147 current cases, and efforts are being made to reconcile the death statistics. Bihar awaits daily information on COVID-19.
The authorities are keeping a close eye on the situation and stress the importance of being vigilant.
Prataprao Jadhav, the Union Minister of State for Health and AYUSH (Independent Charge), gave assurances on Friday that the Center was ready to tackle any eventuality.
"The AYUSH Ministry and our Central Health Department are both on high alert and keeping a careful eye on the situation in every state. We have had conversations with the relevant AYUSH and Health Secretaries, along with other relevant ministers," Jadhav told sources.
He went on to say that plans were being made to handle any situation and that the infrastructure built during the previous Covid-19 waves had been examined"We have already started making preparations and have examined the infrastructure, including oxygen plants and intensive care units, that was constructed during the previous Covid waves. He declared, "Our health systems are prepared to deal with any emergency that may come up in response to COVID."
