July 28, 2025: A pick-up truck carrying 25 pilgrims fell into the Sirhind canal late Sunday night from Jagera Bridge on the Malerkotla road near Dehlon in the Ludhiana district, killing six people, including children. Five others are still missing. After receiving the information, Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, SSP Khanna Dr. Jyoti Yadav, MLA Manvinder Singh Giaspura, and other administration and police officials rushed to the location. The bodies were to be removed from the canal by divers.
The majority of pilgrims were rescued and transported to nearby medical facilities. According to information, everyone was going back to their village, Manakwal, after paying respects at the Himachal Pradesh's Mata Naina Devi temple. According to a devotee, the pick-up vehicle was overloaded. He claimed that the driver lost control of the vehicle while overtaking it, and the vehicle fell into the canal.
According to SSP Yadav, information that a pickup truck carrying passengers had overturned and fallen into the Sirhind canal was received around 9:45 p.m. According to Yadav, an administration and police team arrived at the scene and transported all of the injured to hospitals. According to the SSP, the accident resulted in the deaths of six people, while others sustained injuries and were receiving treatment at various hospitals. According to Sarpanch Kesar Singh of Manakwal village, who also reached the location, 25 village residents went to visit Shri Naina Devi on July 26 in a pick-up truck and were involved in an accident on the way back to their homes. He stated that some of the injured were referred to Ahmedgarh Mandi, while others were rushed to hospitals in Ludhiana and Khanna.
