Jammu University hosts Prof G L Kaul memorial lecture

The Department of Computer Science & IT, University of Jammu organized a lecture in memory of Prof G L Kaul, the Founding Member of the Department here on Monday. Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof Manoj Dhar was the Chief on the occasion and appreciated the efforts of the Head of Department of Computer Science and IT for taking the initiative.

Vice-Chancellor also underlined the achievements and contributions of Prof G L Kaul in building the department. Prof Girish Nath Jha from Jawaharlal Nehru University was the resource person who delivered a lecture on Natural Language Processing. The title of the lecture was ‘AI in Wilderness – Perils of Linguistic Computing in Diverse Societies’.

Prof Naresh Padha, Dean Research Studies, was the Guest of the Honour. While addressing students, he recalled his long association with Prof G L Kaul.

Prof Lalit Sen Sharma, Head of the Department discussed significance of the topic in today’s world of information technology and assured that holding of such lectures shall be a continuous feature.

Prof Pawanesh Abrol threw light on life history and contributions of Prof Kaul. Veena Kaul, wife of late Prof G L Kaul and other family members also attended the lecture. Prof O N Kaul presented vote of thanks.

Others present on the occasion included Prof Vinod Sharma, Prof Ram Bahadur Shukla, Dr Dharminder Magotra, Dr Shubhnandan, Jasbir Singh, Dr Raj Kumar and Dr Vikram Sahi.
