Ramman Checkpoint in Sikkim to open to foreign tourists from March 1
29-January-2021

Starting March 1, foreign tourists will be able to enter Sikkim from Ramman Checkpoint, which is being re-opened after a 10 long years! The decision was taken because now the northeastern state wants to expand its rural, religious, cultural and adventure tourism. The announcement of opening of the Ramman checkpoint to tourists was made by chief secretary SC Gupta.

The checkpoint will be made accessible to tourists from all over the world who have been requesting the state for an entry through Budang in West Sikkim. With this, now tourists from other countries will be able to visit Sikkim in a much easier and more affordable way.

Tourists can now also enjoy visiting Darjeeling on their way to Sikkim. As per records, more than 1,50,000 foreign travellers visit Sikkim every year. But because the checkpost had been shut down for more than a decade, tourists were entering the state without any official permit.

The Ramman Checkpoint is set close to Darjeeling border and Jorethang Town. So, with the opening of this post, now foreign tourists will be able to enter Sikkim from Darjeeling in less than a 90-minute drive from North Bengal via Tukvar and Singla.

So now foreign tourists to Darjeeling will be able to visit both South and West Sikkim very easily. Adventure junkies can enjoy sports at Dzongri and Goechala in south Sikkim while those religiously inclined people can visit pilgrim spots like Buddha Park and Char Dham in west Sikkim.
